HB-splines: an interesting subset of B-splines for interactive CAD applications

چکیده
This paper proposes to study a spline model, called HBsplines, that is in fact a B-spline representation of Hermite splines, combined with some restriction on the derivative constraints. Although this model does not appear able to offer something new to the computer graphics community, we think that HB-splines deserve to be considered for themselves because they embed many interesting features. First, they include all the classical properties required in a geometric modeling environment (convex hull, local control, arbitrary orders of parametric or geometric continuity). Second, they have a nice aptitude for direct manipulation (i.e. manipulation without using control points). For this purpose, we propose a new graphic widget, called control sails, that offers the user an intuitive way to specify local properties (position, tangent, curvature) of a curve or a surface. Finally, they provide an elegant formulation of a biorthogonal wavelet family, that permits multiresolution manipulations of the resulting curves or surfaces, in a very efficient way.

An Hermitian Approach for Multiresolution Splines
This paper presents an alternative to the semi-orthogonal spline wavelets classically used for multiresolution representation in the eld of computer aided design. This new approach involves less computation, is more modular, and is potentially more exible than the classical approach. This multiresolution scheme is presented through the use of HB-splines, a speciic subset of particular B-splines...

متن کاملLocalized Editing of Catmull-Rom Splines
Catmull-Rom (C-R) splines offer many useful modeling properties, such as affine invariance, global smoothness, and local control. They are therefore of great interest to Computer Aided Design (CAD) users. C-R splines are easily evaluated and are a good choice for interactive applications because they interpolate their control points and therefore provide an intuitive way to represent and edit c...
متن کاملAdaptive CAD model (re-)construction with THB-splines
Computer Aided Design (CAD) software libraries rely on the tensor-product NURBS model as standard spline technology. However, in applications of industrial complexity, this mathematical model does not provide sufficient flexibility as an effective geometric modeling option. In particular, the multivariate tensor–product construction precludes the design of adaptive spline representations that s...
متن کاملC1 bicubic splines over general T-meshes
The present authors have introduced polynomial splines over T-meshes (PHT-splines) and provided the theories and applications for PHT-splines over hierarchical T-meshes. This paper generalizes PHT-splines to arbitrary topology over general T-meshes with any structures. The general PHT-spline surfaces can be constructed through an unified scheme to interpolate the local geometric information at ...
